Da Lat is the city of Lam Dong province in Vietnam and known as the City of Flowers and honeymooners with lovely French villas, fresh air, beautiful waterfalls and gorgeous lakes in a lush and green valley of postcard beauty. The city is a former hill station from the days of French colonialism and surrounded by a countryside resemble French village in the Alps.

Weather

Da Lat’s weather is one of the quaint town’s main attractions for travellers. Thanks to its hilltop location, Da Lat enjoys a consistently mild and cool climate throughout the year. The locals and expats living in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh often travel to the city during their holidays and long weekends. The city has two distinctive seasons each year. The dry season takes place between November and March, while rainy weather lasts from April to October. On average, temperatures are highest in May (30°C – 32°C) and lowest in January (20°C – 23°C).

Best Time to Come

The best time to visit Da Lat is between December and March when you can see its famous flower gardens in full bloom. Temperatures are also ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking, swimming, and walking. The city also hosts its biannual flower festival during this time, where you can enjoy vibrant parades, exhibitions and workshops, as well as the colourful flowers that surround Xuan Huong Lake.

Transportation to Da Lat

There are many means of transport to Da Lat, you can go by plane, bus, train, or if you have time, health or a companion, you can travel by motorbike (depending on the departure point) .

• Airplane: Bamboo Airways is putting into operation connecting provinces across the country with Da Lat with the cheapest fare from only 199,000 VND. Currently, the airline has just put into operation the route Vinh – Da Lat with a distance of 827 km, flying within 1 hour 35 minutes.

• Car: You can also come to Dalat by car, self-driving car and passenger car. The roads to Da Lat were quite convenient, with many highways built up helped shorten many routes and made moving to Da Lat easier than ever. However, because it is located in the high mountains, the journey to Dalat by car will definitely have to pass winding and steep slopes.

Must-visited sites

Langbiang Mountain is one of the must-see Da Lat attractions in Vietnam, situated on Lang Biang Plateau, Lac Duong district, Lam Dong province. The mountain is well-known for its wonderful nature and its marvelous view of the whole wide region of Da Lat City, the rivers, the forest, and houses of tribal people. You could enjoy a lot of interesting activities, such as camping, bird-watching, exploring the natural flora and experiencing the great but unique culture of the ethnic minority groups.

Da Lat Station is the next one in regard to famous Da Lat attractions which is recognized as a historic culture of Vietnam. This is reckoned the oldest station in Viet Nam as well as Indochina. The station was built by the French from 1932 to 1938 and is the railhead of the Railway Phan Rang-Da Lat, about 84 km in length. The station has a unique architectural style with three conical roofs which are the stylization of three Langbiang mountain tops or the hollow of mountain Highlands.

Xuan Huong Lake at the heart of Da Lat City an added character to a beautiful town like Da Lat. The lake is a good focal point to the city and a valuable landmark when you get lost on your wanderings. Interestingly, this is the most beautiful lake in Da Lat, giving this romantic city an invaluable gift of having a lake right in its centre.

Domaine De Marie Church is strongly affected by the architecture of churches in Normandie region of France, built in 1940-1943. This is a next spot in the list of Da Lat attractions that tourists should not overlook. The special points when you visit the Domain church is not only purely enjoying the scenery there but also making meaningful things. The church itself has excellent architecture with gardens, surrounding parks, which are very unique.

Datanla Waterfall is considered as one of the most wonderful Da Lat attractions, located near at the natural place, which is very wonderful, full of green pines – a forest of over 100 years featuring with a 20-meter drop, contains several wooden bridges to cross from one side to another side, and to observe from the above of the waterfall.

Valley Of Love is one of the must-see Da Lat attractions in Vietnam, about 5 km far away from the heart of Da Lat in the North, a very romantic destination for couples. The valley has poetic landscapes and a lot of interesting activities and games. Some people even bring hammocks here and spend their time on reading, napping. It is really relaxing place, which caters for all.

Foods

Banh Mi Xiu Mai (Vietnamese Baguette with Meatball Soup) is typically a crispy baguette with a variety of fillings These flavourful meatballs are made with minced mushroom, onion, garlic, ground pork, and local spices, before being cooked in a hearty tomato-based broth.
Banh Canh (Noodle Soup) is a hearty noodle soup made with simmered pork meat and bones. Well-loved for its warming properties, this dish typically comes with a generous amount of thick tapioca rice noodles, green onions, cilantro, and pork slices. You can also enjoy it with quail eggs, fried spring rolls, fish cakes, or fish ball, if you’re not a fan of pork.
Banh Uot Long Ga (Wet Rice Cake With Boiled Chicken) is widely regarded as Da Lat’s most popular street food. You get a plate of chewy rice cakes topped with boiled chicken meat and innards, as well as bean sprouts and fresh basil.
Banh Trang Kep (Grilled Rice Paper With Egg) is known as Vietnamese pizza comprising of grilled rice paper with a variety of toppings and sauces. Toppings include eggs, spring onions, dried shrimp, cheese, pate, dried beef, sweet sauce, and mayonnaise.

Nem Nuong (Fermented Pork Roll) is fermented pork roll that’s served with dipping sauce, pickled green papaya, and raw herbs. It’s typically grilled over a charcoal stove, resulting in a smoky flavour. Enjoy it like the locals by wrapping all of the ingredients into a piece of rice paper before dipping it into the sauce, which is made with fish sauce, ground liver, prawn, pork, and peanuts.

Xap Xap (Dried Beef Salad) consists of sliced beef jerky, green papaya, peanuts, and mint leaves, with a healthy drizzle of fish sauce. This light salad is a variation of goi kho bo, which is commonly found in Ho Chi Minh City. In Da Lat, xap xap is topped with seasoned pork or beef innards, but you can easily ask the cook to omit these if you’re not a fan.

Oc Buou Nhoi Thit (Vietnamese Escargot) is thought to be influenced by the French, as it’s made with freshwater snails. This unique dish is prepared by removing the snail’s meat from its shell and mixing it with ground pork, garlic, and lemongrass. The mixture and a lemongrass stalk are then stuffed into the shells and steamed for a few minutes. It’s also served with a side of fermented fish sauce for dipping.
